Chapter 1: 11 Years of Movement as Medicine

The story behind the coach, the classes, the clients—and why I still love this work.

Eleven years.

Eleven years since I started collecting certifications, continuing my education, stepping into rooms full of people, and learning that being a fitness professional is about so much more than teaching someone how to move their body.

It started with yoga.

Buti. Vinyasa. Kundalini. Restorative.

Different practices, different energy, different ways of moving—but the same underlying belief:

Movement changes us.

I’ve believed that for as long as I can remember.

Even when I didn’t have the vocabulary for it, I knew movement was medicine.

It could help us heal.
It could help us reconnect.
It could make us feel powerful.
It could give us confidence when life had taken some of it away.

And eventually, I knew I wanted to help other people experience that.

So I kept learning.

Yoga led me into strength training. Strength training led me into personal training. And somewhere along the way, I realized this wasn’t simply something I did.

It was something I was becoming.

And then came the classrooms.

I started teaching group fitness from essentially zero.

One person became two.

Two became five.

And eventually, I was standing in front of 30+ people.

But here’s something those numbers don’t tell you:

You learn a lot about commitment when you show up to teach a class and nobody shows up.

You learn to keep showing up anyway.

You learn that consistency isn’t about how many people are watching.

It’s about deciding who you are, AND continuing to show up as her.

That lesson has stayed with me for 11 years.

But the greatest reward was never the number of people in the room.

It’s the stories.

The woman who finally feels strong again.

The client who tells me she wore the sleeveless shirt.

The woman who walks into a gym with confidence instead of intimidation.

The person who realizes she can do something she genuinely didn’t believe her body could do.

The entrepreneur who has spent years building a successful business and finally realizes that her body deserves the same investment as everything else she’s built.

The frustrations.

The setbacks.

The little wins.

The big wins.

The conversations after class.

The messages that start with, “I just wanted to tell you…”

Those are the moments that have made these 11 years matter.

Because sometimes you don’t need another workout.

Sometimes you need a gym sis.

Someone who sees you.

Someone who knows when to push you and when to modify.

Someone who reminds you that you are capable when you’ve temporarily forgotten.

Someone who can meet you where you are and help you build from there.

And that’s where I am today.

I’m still that woman who believes movement is medicine.

But I’ve become much more intentional about who I want to serve and how I want to serve them.

I especially love working with high-performing women. Women who are building businesses, raising families, leading teams, traveling, creating, achieving…

Women who are incredibly capable in so many areas of their lives but sometimes realize:

“I want my body to feel as strong as the life I’m building.”

That’s where I come in.

I love one-on-one training.

I love small groups.

I love having the time to actually know the person I’m coaching, not just their reps and sets, but their goals, their obstacles, their confidence, their life.

Because fitness isn’t one-size-fits-all.

Your body isn’t a project to fix.

It’s the vehicle carrying you through the life you’re creating.

And after 11 years, that’s what I want my work to continue to be about:

Helping women build strong, capable, confident bodies so they can fully inhabit the lives they’ve worked so hard to create.

So today, I’m not just celebrating 11 years of certifications.

I’m celebrating 11 years of showing up.

For myself.

For my clients.

For the women who walked into my classes nervous and walked out feeling powerful.

For the women who trusted me with their stories.

For every person who let me be a small part of their journey.

And for the woman I’m still becoming.

11 years in…and I am just getting started.

If you’ve been thinking about starting, or restarting your strength and fitness journey, this might be your sign.

You don’t need to be “in shape” first.

You don’t need to know what you’re doing.

You don’t need to wait until Monday.

You just need a place to begin.

Let’s build from where you are.
